Back to the Future: The Game is an episodic graphic adventure that continues the adventures of Marty McFly and Doc Brown after the events of the movie trilogy. Six months after the third film, the DeLorean unexpectedly returns to Hill Valley without Doc inside, leading Marty to discover that his friend has become trapped in another period of history.
The story eventually sends Marty through different versions of Hill Valley as changes to the past repeatedly alter the future. Familiar characters and families return alongside younger versions of people from the films, while the five-episode season develops into another time-travel story about repairing increasingly complicated changes to history.
How the Gameplay Works
Players control Marty from a third-person perspective while exploring three-dimensional locations. Characters and objects can be examined and interacted with, while conversations provide dialogue choices that reveal information needed to move the story forward.
Many puzzles require collecting objects and keeping them in Marty’s inventory until the correct opportunity to use them appears. Other challenges depend on talking to characters in a particular order, changing events in the environment, or understanding how past actions will affect another point in time. An optional hint system can provide progressively clearer clues when a puzzle becomes difficult.
