Cadillacs and Dinosaurs is a side-scrolling arcade beat-’em-up set in a post-apocalyptic world where humans and dinosaurs live alongside one another. Players choose from four playable characters—Jack Tenrec, Hannah Dundee, Mustapha Cairo, and Mess O’Bradovich—and battle against gangs, poachers, mutated creatures, and other enemies threatening the balance between humans and nature. Each character has different strengths and fighting characteristics, giving players several ways to approach the game’s fast-paced combat.
The game combines hand-to-hand fighting with firearms, melee weapons, environmental objects, and occasional vehicle-based action. Players travel through cities, jungles, swamps, underground areas, and other locations while facing large groups of enemies and powerful bosses. Dinosaurs also appear throughout the adventure and can become part of the chaos, sometimes attacking nearby characters instead of behaving like ordinary enemies.
How the Gameplay Works
Players move through 2D side-scrolling stages while punching, kicking, jumping, grabbing enemies, and performing character-specific attacks. Weapons dropped by enemies or found throughout stages can be picked up and used temporarily, including knives, clubs, pistols, shotguns, and other firearms. Some objects in the environment can also be broken to reveal food, weapons, and other useful items.
Each stage sends increasingly large groups of enemies against the players before eventually leading to a boss encounter. Certain sections change the normal fighting formula, including a driving sequence where players use Jack’s Cadillac to race along a road and knock down approaching enemies. Up to three players can fight together in the arcade version, allowing different characters to combine their attacks while dealing with large groups of enemies and dinosaurs.
