Chicken Invaders 2: The Next Wave is a fast-paced arcade shooter that continues humanity’s battle against an army of intergalactic chickens. After the invasion of Earth in the first game, the chickens return with a much larger plan to take control of the entire solar system. Players pilot a small spacecraft from planet to planet, fighting through formations of attacking chickens while avoiding eggs, projectiles, and other hazards coming from above.
The campaign travels across 11 planets and contains 110 levels, including ten secret stages. Along the way, players can improve their firepower, collect bonuses, and compete for higher scores while enemy formations become progressively more demanding. The game supports both solo play and two-player cooperative action, allowing two spacecraft to fight the invasion together on the same screen.
How the Gameplay Works
Players move their spacecraft around the bottom portion of the screen while continuously firing at chickens and other targets appearing above. Enemy groups arrive in different formations and attack by dropping eggs and moving through the play area, forcing players to balance constant shooting with careful movement. Destroyed enemies can leave useful pickups that increase weapon strength or provide additional bonuses.
Three main weapon types are available, and each can be upgraded through ten regular power levels with an additional hidden eleventh level. Losing lives can reduce the player’s combat effectiveness, making it important to avoid enemy attacks while preserving upgraded firepower. A skill bonus system also rewards performance based on factors such as speed, efficiency, and other accomplishments, while online high-score tables allow completed runs to be compared with scores from other players.
