Legend of Grimrock 2 is a first-person dungeon-crawling role-playing game that follows a group of prisoners stranded on the mysterious Isle of Nex. Instead of exploring only enclosed underground corridors, the adventure moves through forests, ruins, swamps, beaches, temples, mines, and elaborate dungeons filled with monsters and hidden mechanisms. The island is designed as a connected puzzle where exploration and observation are just as important as combat.
Players create and manage a party of four characters, choosing races, classes, attributes, skills, and equipment for each member. The game combines old-school grid movement with modern presentation, rewarding players who carefully inspect walls, study environmental clues, experiment with switches, and discover secret paths that are easy to miss.
How the Gameplay Works
Movement takes place one grid space at a time from a first-person viewpoint. All four party members travel together, with front-row characters generally handling close-range attacks while those behind can use ranged weapons, spells, or other abilities. Combat happens in real time, so players can move around enemies, dodge attacks, reposition the party, and use the environment to gain an advantage.
Exploration involves solving pressure-plate puzzles, locating keys, understanding symbols, activating hidden switches, and connecting clues found in different parts of the island. Characters earn experience and improve through skill development, while new weapons, armor, magical items, food, and tools are discovered throughout the journey. Multiple routes and optional areas give players considerable freedom in deciding where to explore next.
