Shadowrun Returns is a story-driven tactical RPG set in a cyberpunk future where advanced technology exists alongside magic, fantasy races, and supernatural creatures. Players create a shadowrunner and become involved in an investigation that begins with the murder of an old associate in the streets of Seattle.
The setting combines hackers, corporations, firearms, spellcasters, cybernetic enhancements, elves, trolls, and other elements into a distinctive science-fiction fantasy world. Dialogue and investigation are important between battles, while character development allows several different combat and support specialties.
How the Gameplay Works
Exploration takes place from an isometric viewpoint as players talk to characters, gather information, accept objectives, and travel between locations. When combat begins, the game switches to a turn-based system where characters spend action points to move, attack, use abilities, or take cover.
Character builds can focus on firearms, melee combat, magic, drones, hacking, or combinations of several specialties. Party members recruited for missions provide additional abilities, while positioning and cover become increasingly important against stronger enemies.
