About This Game:
SILENT HILL f takes the psychological horror series away from its familiar American setting and places its story in 1960s Japan. The game follows teenager Hinako Shimizu in the secluded mountain town of Ebisugaoka. When a mysterious fog suddenly covers the area, ordinary streets become distorted, people disappear, and grotesque creatures begin occupying places that Hinako once considered familiar.
The story combines supernatural horror with themes surrounding Hinako’s relationships, fears, identity, and the social pressures of the period. Traditional Japanese imagery appears throughout both the environments and puzzles, while disturbing organic growth and beautiful floral imagery create a contrast between attraction and horror. The mystery gradually develops through exploration, conversations, documents, puzzles, and increasingly surreal events.
How the Gameplay Works
Players explore Ebisugaoka from a third-person perspective while searching buildings, streets, shrines, and other locations for items and clues. Puzzle solving remains a major part of progression, with several puzzles drawing on Japanese customs and imagery. Combat is entirely focused on close-range weapons rather than firearms, forcing Hinako to use items such as pipes, sickles, knives, and other improvised weapons against monsters.
Attacks and dodges consume stamina, while precise timing can trigger counters and perfect dodges. Focus allows Hinako to better read vulnerable moments and unleash powerful attacks, but using it is tied to her Sanity resource. Many ordinary weapons also deteriorate with repeated use and may need repairs or replacement. Players therefore have to decide when fighting is worthwhile and when conserving supplies or avoiding an enemy is the safer choice.
