Skullgirls is a fast 2D fighting game set in the fictional Canopy Kingdom, where fighters become involved in conflicts surrounding a mysterious artifact known as the Skull Heart. The artifact is said to grant the wish of a woman who obtains it, but an impure wish can transform its owner into a dangerous Skullgirl.
The game is known for its hand-drawn animation, unusual cast, and combat system inspired by competitive tag-team fighting games. Characters have highly individual abilities and visual designs, ranging from conventional martial artists to fighters using living hair, musical weapons, parasites, and other strange powers.
How the Gameplay Works
Players can choose teams of different sizes or fight with a single character. Larger teams provide access to assists and character switching, while smaller teams receive adjustments that help balance their reduced number of fighters.
Combat includes light, medium, and heavy attacks, special moves, throws, aerial combinations, blocking, and powerful super attacks. Long combos are possible, but systems are included to prevent endless repeated attack patterns. Training and story modes provide ways to learn characters before competing against other players.
