About This Game:
The Witness is a first-person puzzle game set on a mysterious island covered with hundreds of line-drawing panels. There is almost no traditional exposition, so players learn the island’s rules by observing puzzle behavior, architecture, sound, color, and environmental details.
The island is open enough to explore in different orders, with distinct regions teaching their own visual or logical puzzle concepts before combining them in more difficult ways.
How the Gameplay Works
Most puzzles begin by drawing a line from a starting point to an end point while obeying symbols or environmental rules. New mechanics include separation, symmetry, color, sound, shadows, and shape-based constraints.
Solving panels activates pathways, unlocks areas, and reveals increasingly complex challenges. Some puzzles are hidden directly in the environment rather than on physical panels.
