About This Game:
Yomawari: Lost in the Dark is a top-down horror adventure about a young girl who awakens in a dark forest with no clear memory of how she arrived there. After being told that a curse must be broken before dawn, she explores a nighttime town filled with spirits, abandoned places, and fragments of her missing memories.
The game continues the Yomawari series’ contrast between cute character art and deeply unsettling supernatural encounters. Ordinary streets, schools, tunnels, and houses become dangerous after dark, with Japanese folklore-inspired entities appearing in places that initially seem harmless.
How the Gameplay Works
Players explore with a flashlight, search for clues, hide behind objects, and avoid spirits that cannot usually be defeated directly. A heartbeat system warns when danger is nearby, but looking directly at some threats can make escape more difficult. Items and environmental interactions are used to open routes and reconstruct memories.
Certain sequences require stealth, careful timing, or learning how a specific spirit behaves. Death returns the player to nearby checkpoints, encouraging experimentation without removing the tension. Side paths contain collectibles and additional story details, while the main progression gradually explains the curse and the protagonist’s connection to the town.
