About This Game:
9 Years of Shadows is a colorful Metroidvania following Europa, a young warrior who enters the mechanical Talos Castle in an attempt to end a curse that has drained color and hope from the world. Inside she meets Apino, a magical bear who becomes both companion and source of new abilities.
The adventure combines exploration and combat with elemental armor inspired by different forces. Its pixel-art presentation uses vivid colors and music as central parts of the game’s atmosphere and story.
How the Gameplay Works
Europa attacks enemies with her halberd while Apino can restore armor and assist with ranged actions. Elemental armors grant powers associated with different environments, allowing Europa to survive hazards and reach previously blocked areas.
The castle contains interconnected rooms, hidden upgrades, enemies, and boss encounters. Returning with new movement abilities opens additional routes and helps uncover more of Talos Castle’s secrets.
