About This Game:
Aether & Iron is a narrative RPG set in an alternate version of 1930s New York where the discovery of anti-gravitational aether technology has transformed transportation and lifted parts of the city into the sky. Beneath the stylish Art Deco appearance is a society divided by wealth, political power, organized crime, and authoritarian figures. Players enter this world as a smuggler and become involved in conflicts capable of changing the future of the floating metropolis.
The adventure combines dialogue-heavy role-playing with tactical vehicle battles, crew recruitment, exploration, and decisions that influence both individual characters and the larger story. Aether-powered cars can be heavily customized, companions bring their own skills and personal stories, and character development focuses on different talents that can improve the player’s chances during dangerous or socially complicated situations.
How the Gameplay Works
Exploration and conversations lead players through the streets and hidden areas of alternate-history New York, where decisions can open or close different opportunities. Character abilities are divided between Hustle, Smarts, and Brass, helping with combat and social interactions. Success is not always guaranteed, however, because important actions can still depend on dice rolls.
Combat takes place through tactical turn-based encounters involving aether-powered vehicles. Cars can be configured around speed, protection, or offensive power and fitted with equipment such as armor plating, grenade launchers, smoke systems, hidden compartments, and flamethrowers. Additional companions can be recruited to provide useful talents, while narrative choices influence relationships, events, and the eventual direction of New York’s future.
