About This Game:
Age of Wonders III is a turn-based fantasy strategy game that combines empire building with tactical battles and role-playing progression. Players lead a fantasy ruler and expand across a world occupied by rival civilizations, independent settlements, dangerous creatures, hidden treasures, and valuable resources. Different races and leader classes provide numerous ways to shape an empire around military strength, magic, diplomacy, or economic development.
The game operates on two major levels. A strategic world map is used to develop cities, explore territory, research new abilities, and move armies, while individual battles shift into dedicated tactical maps where every unit can be positioned and controlled separately.
How the Gameplay Works
Players begin with cities, heroes, and military units before exploring surrounding territory one turn at a time. Cities can construct buildings and recruit units, while research unlocks spells and improvements associated with the player’s chosen class and magical specializations.
When opposing armies meet, combat can be resolved automatically or played manually on a hex-based battlefield. Units move, attack, cast abilities, and use defensive positions during tactical turns. Heroes gain experience and equipment, making them increasingly important as campaigns continue.
