Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic is a fantasy turn-based strategy game where powerful wizard leaders compete for territory using armies, magic, diplomacy, and city development. Different races offer their own units and strengths, while the addition of the Shadow World introduces another layer of exploration and conflict beyond the normal surface and underground maps.
Players can experience structured campaigns or create custom scenarios where kingdoms grow over many turns. Heroes, magical items, spells, research, racial relationships, and territorial expansion give players numerous ways to shape their faction before armies eventually meet in tactical battles.
How the Gameplay Works
On the strategic map, players move armies, capture cities, explore locations, collect resources, research spells, and manage settlements. Cities can produce new units and improve their defenses, while diplomacy can create alliances or conflicts with other rulers.
When opposing armies meet, combat takes place on a separate tactical battlefield where individual units move and attack in turns. Terrain, ranged attacks, magic, special abilities, and unit positioning can all influence the outcome. Heroes gain experience and equipment as they survive battles and continue exploring the world.
