About This Game:
Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs is a first-person psychological horror game set in London in 1899. Wealthy industrialist Oswald Mandus awakens inside his mansion after a severe fever, troubled by disturbing visions and fragmented memories of an expedition to Mexico. His children appear to be missing, while strange machinery can be heard operating somewhere beneath the house.
The story gradually moves away from the mansion and deeper into a massive industrial complex connected to Mandus and his past. Themes involving industry, wealth, guilt, human cruelty, and social inequality become increasingly important as the purpose of the machine is revealed.
How the Gameplay Works
Players explore from a first-person perspective, opening doors, searching rooms, reading documents, operating machinery, and solving environmental puzzles. A lantern helps illuminate dark locations but can also make the player easier for hostile creatures to notice.
There are no conventional weapons, so dangerous encounters usually require hiding, moving carefully, or finding another route. Progress depends mainly on exploration and puzzle solving rather than resource-heavy survival systems, giving the game a more narrative-focused structure than The Dark Descent.
