About This Game:
Amnesia: The Dark Descent is a first-person survival horror game that follows Daniel, a man who wakes inside the isolated Castle Brennenburg with almost no memory of how he arrived there. Notes and fragmented memories gradually reveal that Daniel deliberately erased parts of his past and left himself instructions to find and kill the castle’s owner, Alexander.
The castle is filled with locked rooms, underground chambers, disturbing experiments, supernatural threats, and traces of events Daniel would rather not remember. The game emphasizes vulnerability and atmosphere instead of giving the player weapons capable of fighting back against the creatures roaming the halls.
How the Gameplay Works
Players explore the castle, search drawers and rooms for useful objects, solve environmental puzzles, and use physics to manipulate doors, machinery, crates, and other objects. Darkness protects Daniel from being easily noticed but also damages his sanity when he remains in it for too long.
A lantern and tinderboxes provide light, but lamp oil and other resources are limited. When monsters appear, the safest options are usually hiding, breaking line of sight, or running to another area. Looking directly at disturbing creatures and events can also affect Daniel’s mental condition.
