About This Game:
Beholder is a dystopian adventure and strategy game set inside a totalitarian state where the government closely controls everyday life. Players become Carl Stein, a landlord installed by the authorities to manage an apartment building while secretly observing the people who live there.
Carl is expected to report anyone who breaks government rules, but the tenants are more than simple targets. They have families, problems, secrets, and personal stories, forcing the player to decide whether to obey official orders, protect particular residents, exploit the information they discover, or find another way through difficult situations.
How the Gameplay Works
Players move around the apartment building, speak with residents, accept tasks, and watch tenants as their routines change throughout the day. When an apartment is empty, Carl can enter it, search personal belongings, install surveillance cameras, and collect information about the people living there.
Evidence can be used to create reports, expose prohibited activity, or influence characters in other ways. Money, family needs, government demands, and time-sensitive objectives create additional pressure. Many situations can be resolved differently, and decisions made while dealing with tenants can influence their futures as well as Carl’s own situation.
