Approaching Infinity is a turn-based space exploration roguelike where players command a starship and crew across a procedurally generated universe. The game combines exploration, trading, combat, quests, planetary expeditions, and faction relationships.
Every star system can contain planets, stations, anomalies, derelicts, and hostile ships. The open-ended structure lets players focus on discovery, commerce, combat, or long-term progression.
How the Gameplay Works
Players move a starship across grid-based space, manage fuel and equipment, fight enemies, board wrecks, explore planet surfaces, trade goods, and accept missions. Crew members provide skills useful during exploration and combat.
Better ships, weapons, devices, and crew allow travel into more dangerous regions. Factions react to the player’s choices, while procedural generation means a campaign can continue for a very long time without a fixed route. The experience also rewards experimentation because turn-based space roguelike does not operate separately from procedural universe and ship and crew management. Different combinations can produce safer, faster, or more efficient results, while planet and derelict exploration gives the player another long-term objective to consider. That keeps repeated stages or encounters from feeling exactly the same. Although the game keeps its systems limited, turn-based space roguelike, procedural universe, and ship and crew management provide the main sources of progression and give players a clear reason to refine their approach over repeated stages or attempts.
