Biomutant is an open-world action RPG set in a colorful post-apocalyptic world populated by mutated animals, strange creatures, and rival tribes. Players control a customizable warrior whose appearance, abilities, and combat strengths can be shaped before and during the adventure. The main story revolves around the Tree of Life, which is being threatened by powerful creatures known as Worldeaters, while different tribes compete for control over the surrounding regions.
The game mixes exploration, melee combat, firearms, crafting, and character progression across a large world filled with ruined towns, underground facilities, hazardous areas, and natural environments. Players can choose how they interact with different tribes, make decisions that influence parts of the story, and develop their character through mutations, equipment, skills, and new combat abilities.
How the Gameplay Works
Players explore the world from a third-person perspective while completing story missions, side quests, tribe conflicts, and optional activities. Combat combines close-range weapons, firearms, dodging, parrying, special attacks, and Wung-Fu martial arts techniques. Different weapons can be equipped depending on the player’s preferred style, while ranged and melee attacks can be mixed together during fights to create faster and more varied combinations.
Character progression allows players to unlock new abilities, mutations, and Psi-Powers while improving attributes such as strength, agility, vitality, and intellect. Weapons and equipment can also be crafted by combining different parts found throughout the world. Exploration sometimes requires special vehicles or protective equipment, particularly when entering contaminated or dangerous regions. Choices involving tribes, characters, and certain major events can also influence how parts of the adventure develop.
