Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is a first-person military shooter that continues directly from the events of Modern Warfare 2 and brings the original Modern Warfare storyline toward its conclusion. The campaign follows several military units as a global conflict spreads across major cities and battlefields around the world. Returning characters such as Captain Price and Soap MacTavish remain central to the story, while new soldiers and special forces teams become involved in the fight against Vladimir Makarov and his growing threat.

The game focuses on fast combat, cinematic missions, and frequent changes in location, taking players through war-torn streets, underground areas, military installations, and large urban environments. Alongside the campaign, Modern Warfare 3 includes an expanded Special Ops mode, a new Survival experience, and competitive multiplayer with progression, customizable classes, weapon upgrades, and several ways to earn battlefield support.

How the Gameplay Works
Players control different soldiers from a first-person perspective and complete missions built around shooting, movement, defensive positions, vehicle sequences, and scripted objectives. Combat uses a wide selection of modern firearms, explosives, and tactical equipment, with players able to pick up different weapons during missions. Objectives can involve clearing buildings, protecting allies, pursuing enemies, defending important positions, or moving through large battles while following squad commands.

Outside the campaign, Special Ops provides separate missions that can be played alone or cooperatively, while Survival mode challenges players to fight increasingly difficult waves of enemies. Multiplayer offers several competitive modes across a variety of maps, with experience points unlocking weapons, attachments, perks, equipment, and other customization options. The Strike Package system also lets players choose between Assault, Support, and Specialist rewards, giving different playstyles their own progression during matches.
