Caves of Qud is a science-fantasy roguelike set in an enormous world where ancient technology, mutated creatures, strange civilizations, and forgotten history exist together. Players create a character from an extensive collection of physical mutations, mental powers, cybernetic possibilities, skills, and backgrounds before entering the deserts and jungles of Qud.
The world combines handcrafted history and settlements with extensive procedural generation, creating unusual encounters and locations across repeated adventures. Characters can become dramatically different depending on the mutations, equipment, alliances, and abilities discovered during play.
How the Gameplay Works
Movement and combat occur in turns, with nearly every action causing creatures around the player to act as well. Characters can use melee weapons, firearms, mutations, psychic abilities, technological equipment, and environmental interactions during encounters.
Exploration extends through surface regions and deep underground areas filled with ruins, treasure, factions, and dangerous creatures. Reputation affects relationships with different groups, while the game’s simulation allows unusual solutions involving objects, terrain, liquids, creatures, and character powers.
