Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Edition is an expanded version of the classic first-person shooter where Duke returns to Earth and discovers that aliens have invaded. Armed with conventional firearms, explosives, experimental weapons, and a constant supply of one-liners, Duke fights through cities, military facilities, alien installations, and other interactive environments.
The Atomic Edition contains the original three episodes together with the fourth episode added by the Plutonium Pak. The expanded campaign introduces additional levels and enemies while retaining the fast action, secret-filled maps, humor, and environmental interaction of the original release.
How the Gameplay Works
Players explore levels in first person while searching for access cards, weapons, ammunition, health, secrets, and the exit. Enemies range from alien troopers to larger mutated creatures, while Duke can use pistols, shotguns, machine guns, rocket weapons, pipe bombs, and several unusual pieces of equipment.
Many parts of the environment can be interacted with, including switches, toilets, security screens, and destructible objects. Jetpacks open vertical routes, steroids increase movement speed, and the Shrinker and Freezethrower provide unconventional ways to deal with enemies. Hidden rooms reward players who thoroughly explore each stage.
