Shadows: Awakening is an isometric action RPG built around a demon called the Devourer who can absorb the souls of fallen heroes. These souls become playable puppets, allowing the player to switch between characters while moving between the mortal world and the Shadow Realm.
The realm-switching system is central to both combat and exploration. Objects, enemies, paths, and hazards may exist in only one dimension, so progress often requires changing worlds at the correct moment.
How the Gameplay Works
Players control one puppet at a time in real-time combat, using class abilities, weapons, spells, and consumables. Switching between absorbed heroes allows different combat roles to be used without returning to a town or rebuilding the party.
Experience, equipment, crafting, and skill development strengthen the available puppets. Dungeons contain puzzles, hidden areas, and encounters that rely on dimension shifting as well as direct fighting.
