Decktamer combines monster collecting with a roguelike deckbuilding structure where many of the enemies encountered in battle can eventually become part of the player’s own deck. Descending deeper into the Abyss introduces increasingly dangerous creatures and forces players to decide whether an enemy should be defeated or preserved long enough to tame.
Creatures function as the player’s cards, giving each run a party-building element in addition to traditional deck strategy. Different monsters can develop useful combinations, while mutations and other changes keep their abilities from remaining completely predictable between attempts.
How the Gameplay Works
Combat is turn-based, with the player’s captured creatures providing the actions available during battle. When suitable enemies appear, players can attempt to tame them and add their abilities to the growing deck instead of simply eliminating every opponent.
Runs become more difficult deeper in the Abyss, making synergy between creatures increasingly important. Events, bosses, mutations, and changing encounters prevent one strategy from working identically every time and encourage players to continually rebuild their team.
