Empires and Tribes is a medieval city-building and strategy game where players manage a settlement while also taking direct control of a ruler in first person. The game combines town planning, resource production, population management, diplomacy, and military conflict.
Unlike a purely top-down city builder, the player can walk through the settlement, interact with the environment, and personally observe how the town is developing.
How the Gameplay Works
Players place homes, workshops, farms, storage, roads, and defenses while assigning workers and managing production. Resources need to move through a functioning economy before the settlement can support larger populations or armies.
Military units can be raised when conflict becomes necessary, while diplomacy and expansion influence relationships with neighboring powers. The combination of first-person presence and strategic management gives the game a different feel from city builders where the ruler exists only as a menu or portrait. Most of the game’s longer-term depth comes from combining medieval city building with first-person ruler control and resource and worker management. Learning when each system matters is more useful than focusing on one mechanic alone, and production chains gives later sections a stronger sense of progression as the available options or challenges expand.
