Neon Inferno is a cyberpunk action game that combines traditional side-scrolling run-and-gun combat with gallery-shooter mechanics. Set in New York City in 2055, the story takes place during a violent struggle between criminal organizations, private forces, and corrupt authorities. Players enter the conflict as assassins working for the Family, a syndicate determined to take control of the city’s streets.
Players can choose Angelo Morano or Mariana Vitti and fight through highways, industrial districts, neon-covered streets, and other futuristic locations. Detailed pixel art gives the game a modern interpretation of classic arcade shooters, while weapons, melee attacks, vehicle sequences, projectile deflection, and multi-stage bosses keep missions changing from one encounter to the next.
How the Gameplay Works
Characters move through 2D stages while shooting enemies located both on the same plane and in the distant background. Players therefore have to switch attention between traditional side-scrolling threats and targets that must be manually aimed at farther into the scene. Close-range enemies can be attacked with melee strikes, while incoming projectiles can sometimes be deflected back using the Bullet Time mechanic.
Weapons and upgrades can be acquired to increase the available firepower, while certain sections place players inside commandeered vehicles. Every mission ends with a unique boss featuring its own attacks and multiple phases. Difficulty settings allow different levels of challenge, while Arcade Mode is built around clearing the game under traditional limited-credit conditions. Two players can also fight together through local co-op.
