Pac-Man 256 reworks the familiar maze-chasing formula into an endless arcade game inspired by the famous level 256 glitch from the original Pac-Man. Instead of clearing one fixed maze at a time, Pac-Man keeps moving through a continuously generated labyrinth while a corrupted wall of glitches rises from below.
The game keeps pellets, ghosts, fruit, and power pellets at the center of the action, but adds modern score-chasing mechanics and unlockable power-ups. Runs become increasingly frantic as the maze introduces more enemies and the player tries to stay ahead of the advancing glitch while building a larger score.
How the Gameplay Works
Pac-Man moves through the maze collecting pellets while avoiding ghosts with different movement behaviors. Eating 256 pellets in an uninterrupted chain triggers a powerful clearing effect, while traditional power pellets temporarily let Pac-Man eat nearby ghosts. The endless layout means there is no final maze to finish.
Players can equip and upgrade special abilities such as lasers, tornadoes, fire, and other attacks that create different ways to handle crowded paths. Coins and progression unlock additional powers, and the game supports local multiplayer modes on compatible versions for shared score-chasing runs.
