Railroads & Catacombs is a deckbuilding roguelike that combines a moving train base with tactical battles in a dark post-apocalyptic world. Players recruit survivors, build decks around them, and travel between dangerous locations in search of resources and progress.
The train acts as a mobile hub where characters can be improved and prepared before entering catacombs or combat encounters.
How the Gameplay Works
Battles are turn-based and use cards for attacks, defense, movement, and special abilities. Character positioning can influence which attacks are possible or which survivor receives damage.
Between battles, players manage the train, recruit or upgrade characters, improve cards, and choose routes. The run-based structure rewards building a team whose decks support one another rather than relying on one powerful character. The longer-term loop is built around improving at deckbuilding roguelike while making smarter use of mobile train hub and turn-based tactical combat. As the difficulty rises, recruitable survivors becomes increasingly important and forces the player to think beyond immediate success. This makes progression feel like a gradual mastery of connected systems rather than a simple sequence of stronger enemies. That simple structure works because deckbuilding roguelike and mobile train hub remain the main focus throughout, while turn-based tactical combat adds enough variation to keep later stages from feeling identical.
