Runaway: A Road Adventure is a traditional point-and-click adventure following Brian Basco, a student whose ordinary travel plans collapse after he meets a mysterious woman named Gina. The pair become caught in a dangerous situation involving criminals, stolen secrets, unusual characters, and a journey across several locations in the United States.
The game combines a cinematic cartoon presentation with inventory puzzles, dialogue, investigation, and comedy. Progress comes from examining environments carefully and discovering how seemingly unrelated objects can be combined or used to solve increasingly elaborate problems.
How the Gameplay Works
Players guide Brian through hand-drawn locations, clicking on characters and objects to investigate the surroundings. Useful items are collected into an inventory and later applied to environmental puzzles, often requiring several steps before the correct solution becomes possible.
Conversations provide story information and clues, while new locations become available as puzzles are completed. There is little emphasis on reflex-based action, so most of the challenge comes from observation, experimentation, logical connections, and figuring out which inventory item belongs in each situation.
