Rustler is a top-down open-world action game that takes the structure and attitude of classic crime games and drops it into a deliberately inaccurate medieval setting. Players control a troublemaker simply known as The Guy, who steals horses, starts fights, takes questionable jobs, and attempts to enter the Grand Tournament.
The world mixes castles, knights, peasants, witch hunts, taverns, guards, and medieval weapons with modern jokes and deliberate historical nonsense. Its humor constantly treats medieval life as if it were the setting for an old-school urban crime game.
How the Gameplay Works
Players explore freely on foot or horseback while completing missions, stealing mounts, fighting enemies, and causing enough trouble to attract the attention of local authorities. Melee weapons, ranged equipment, and environmental objects provide several ways to deal with hostile characters.
Side activities and optional encounters are scattered throughout the map, while story missions gradually move The Guy toward his larger ambitions. Committing crimes increases law-enforcement attention, creating medieval-style pursuits through towns and countryside.
