About This Game:
Shadows Over Loathing is a black-and-white comedy RPG set in a strange version of the 1920s filled with mobsters, occult artifacts, haunted locations, and stick-figure characters. The story begins with the player arriving to help run an uncle’s antique shop and quickly becoming involved in a much larger supernatural mystery.
The game mixes absurd humor with exploration and turn-based battles, but much of its personality comes from optional dialogue, strange item descriptions, and side quests hidden throughout the world. Several character classes provide different approaches to combat and puzzle solving.
How the Gameplay Works
Players explore towns, farms, universities, swamps, and other locations, collect equipment, solve environmental puzzles, and fight enemies using turn-based attacks and class abilities. Status effects, food, accessories, and combat items can dramatically change a build.
Many quests offer multiple outcomes or joke solutions, and dialogue skills can bypass situations that would otherwise lead to combat. Companion characters provide additional abilities and story scenes. The game rewards players who investigate every location because seemingly minor objects or conversations often lead to hidden content. As progression continues, comedy turn-based rpg and 1920s occult setting remain useful rather than being replaced, giving the player more reason to refine the same core strategy.
