Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove is a collection of retro-inspired action platforming campaigns set in a colorful fantasy world of knights, magic, treasure, and unusual villains. Its central adventure follows Shovel Knight as he searches for his lost partner Shield Knight while confronting the Order of No Quarter and the powerful Enchantress.
Treasure Trove expands far beyond the original campaign by including separate adventures starring Plague Knight, Specter Knight, and King Knight. Each hero has a different movement system, combat style, story, and set of stages, turning the package into several connected platforming games rather than a simple character swap.
How the Gameplay Works
Shovel Knight attacks with his shovel and can bounce downward from enemies and objects to cross hazards. Treasure collected in stages can be spent on health improvements, magical relics, armor, and other upgrades. Losing a life causes bags of money to remain near the point of defeat, giving players a chance to recover them.
The additional campaigns introduce completely different mechanics. Plague Knight uses explosive mixtures and aerial bursts, Specter Knight climbs walls and attacks with a scythe, while King Knight uses shoulder charges and card-based elements. Bosses, hidden rooms, optional challenges, and New Game Plus provide further reasons to replay each adventure.
