Space Trader: Merchant Marine combines science-fiction trading with first-person exploration and combat across a human-settled solar system. Players begin with limited money and opportunities but can gradually build wealth through legal commerce, risky deals, and work involving less reputable characters.
The campaign moves from Earth and the Moon toward settlements farther across the solar system. Rival trading interests, criminal organizations, recurring characters, and government authorities add narrative complications to the basic goal of becoming a successful merchant.
How the Gameplay Works
Players travel between locations where commodities can be purchased at one price and sold elsewhere for a profit. Successful trading creates enough capital to access better opportunities and continue moving deeper into the campaign.
Unlike a menu-only economy game, locations are explored from a first-person perspective. Players speak with characters, accept tasks, negotiate deals, and sometimes use firearms during missions involving dangerous opponents or criminal activity.
