About This Game:
SteamWorld Dig is a mining-focused platform adventure set in a world populated by steam-powered robots. Players control Rusty, a lone robot who arrives in the small mining town of Tumbleton after inheriting his uncle’s mine. What initially appears to be a simple digging job gradually reveals strange machinery, ancient secrets, and dangerous creatures hidden far below the surface.
The game combines platforming, exploration, mining, equipment upgrades, and light combat in a compact progression system. Resources found underground can be sold in town, allowing Rusty to purchase improvements that help him survive deeper and more dangerous sections of the mine.
How the Gameplay Works
Players dig through blocks to create their own routes underground while searching for valuable minerals and hidden chambers. Rusty has limited light and carrying capacity, so returning to the surface regularly is necessary to sell resources and restock useful supplies.
New tools and abilities gradually allow Rusty to break stronger materials, move more effectively, and access previously unreachable areas. Enemies, falling rocks, traps, and environmental hazards become more common at greater depths. The mine layout encourages players to think carefully about where they dig so they do not create unnecessary obstacles for themselves.
