Tekken 3 is a classic 3D fighting game that brought faster movement, a larger roster, and a more polished combat system to the series. Set years after the events of Tekken 2, the story introduces a new generation of fighters while continuing the conflict surrounding the Mishima family. Characters such as Jin Kazama, Hwoarang, Ling Xiaoyu, Eddy Gordo, and Bryan Fury joined returning fighters, helping give the game one of the most memorable rosters of its era.
The game became well known for its responsive controls, distinctive fighting styles, and strong variety of modes. Each character has a large selection of punches, kicks, throws, counters, and combination attacks, with many moves inspired by real martial arts. Alongside traditional one-on-one matches, Tekken 3 includes several extra modes that give players more ways to practice, compete, and unlock additional content.
How the Gameplay Works
Matches take place in 3D arenas where two fighters compete across multiple rounds. Players use separate buttons for each limb, allowing different combinations of punches and kicks to create strings, launchers, throws, and more advanced techniques. Movement is also important, with sidestepping letting fighters move around certain attacks instead of relying only on blocking or moving backward.
Every fighter has a different move set and combat style, so learning timing, distance, punishment, and combinations becomes increasingly important against stronger opponents. Arcade Mode takes players through a sequence of battles before reaching the final opponent, while Versus Mode supports local matches between two players. Tekken Force changes the formula into a side-scrolling beat-’em-up style mode, while Tekken Ball lets fighters damage each other by attacking a large ball. Additional characters and content can also be unlocked by progressing through the game.
