Hades is a fast-paced action roguelike from Supergiant Games that follows Zagreus, the son of Hades, as he repeatedly attempts to escape the Underworld. Each run sends him through a changing sequence of chambers filled with enemies, traps, rewards, and powerful bosses. Although failure means returning to the House of Hades, every escape attempt contributes to the larger story and gives Zagreus new opportunities to become stronger.

Greek mythology plays a major role throughout the adventure, with gods such as Zeus, Athena, Poseidon, Artemis, and Ares offering abilities that can dramatically change how a run develops. Back at the House of Hades, Zagreus can speak with other characters, unlock permanent upgrades, improve his weapons, and discover more about his family and the Underworld. The combination of repeated runs, character interactions, and ongoing story progression makes defeat feel like part of the experience rather than simply starting over.

How the Gameplay Works
Each escape attempt begins by choosing one of several Infernal Arms, with every weapon providing a different style of combat. Zagreus can use normal attacks, special moves, casts, and quick dashes while fighting through individual chambers. Clearing a room usually provides a choice of rewards, which may include Olympian Boons, currency, healing items, weapon upgrades, or resources that can be used after the run.

Boons from the Olympian gods modify attacks and abilities with effects such as lightning, critical damage, deflection, knockback, or status effects. Because rewards and chamber layouts change between attempts, players regularly have to build around whatever upgrades appear during a run. Defeated bosses open the way to new regions of the Underworld, while permanent upgrades from the Mirror of Night, weapon Aspects, keepsakes, and other systems gradually provide more options for future attempts. After escaping or dying, Zagreus returns home where conversations and new events continue moving the story forward.
