About This Game:
Pillars of Eternity is an isometric party-based RPG set in the fantasy world of Eora. The protagonist becomes a Watcher, a person capable of seeing souls and memories from past lives, during a mysterious crisis in which children are being born without souls.
The game draws from classic computer RPG design with extensive dialogue, companion stories, faction politics, exploration, and tactical combat. Players create a custom protagonist and recruit companions with their own classes, backgrounds, personalities, and personal quests.
How the Gameplay Works
Exploration occurs from an isometric viewpoint as the party moves through towns, wilderness areas, ruins, and dungeons. Dialogue choices can depend on attributes, reputation, background, and earlier decisions, giving many conversations several possible directions.
Combat runs in real time but can be paused at any moment to assign orders. Positioning tanks, protecting vulnerable spellcasters, managing limited abilities, and controlling groups of enemies become increasingly important in difficult encounters. Characters gain levels and unlock new class abilities as the story advances.
