Alice: Madness Returns is a dark action-platformer that returns to a twisted interpretation of Wonderland. Years after the fire that destroyed her home and killed her family, Alice struggles with traumatic memories while moving between Victorian London and a Wonderland that is once again falling apart.
The game’s environments reinterpret familiar characters and locations through surreal and often disturbing imagery. Platforming, environmental puzzles, collectibles, and combat are mixed together across long chapters that each introduce their own visual theme and enemy designs.
How the Gameplay Works
Alice can jump, double jump, float through the air, dodge rapidly, and shrink to fit through small spaces or reveal hidden clues. Platforming frequently involves moving platforms, vents, invisible paths, timed obstacles, and long aerial sequences.
Combat uses several unusual weapons, including the Vorpal Blade, Pepper Grinder, Hobby Horse, and Teapot Cannon. Teeth collected throughout levels can upgrade these weapons. Alice can also use her umbrella defensively and enter Hysteria when close to death.
