The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind GOTY is an open-world role-playing game set on the island of Vvardenfell, a strange region of volcanic landscapes, ancient ruins, warring houses, religious institutions, and competing factions. The player begins as a released prisoner and gradually becomes involved in a prophecy connected to the Nerevarine and the threat beneath Red Mountain.
The Game of the Year edition includes the Tribunal and Bloodmoon expansions, adding the city of Mournhold and the frozen island of Solstheim. The world is designed around exploration and player freedom, allowing the main story to be ignored for long periods while factions, side quests, dungeons, and personal goals take priority.
How the Gameplay Works
Players create a character by choosing race, attributes, skills, birthsign, and class preferences. Combat, spellcasting, lockpicking, persuasion, alchemy, enchanting, and other activities are influenced by skills that improve through use. Equipment ranges from standard weapons and armor to powerful enchanted artifacts.
Travel is largely manual, with boats, silt striders, guild teleportation, spells, and other services connecting distant locations. Joining guilds and Great Houses opens separate quest lines, while Tribunal and Bloodmoon provide additional regions, enemies, equipment, and story arcs for stronger characters.
