About This Game:
The King of Fighters 2002 is a traditional 2D fighting game that brings together a large selection of characters from earlier entries in the series. Rather than heavily focusing on a new story chapter, the game works as a Dream Match title, allowing fighters from different points in the series to return together for another tournament.
The combat returns to the familiar three-character team structure without the Striker system used by several previous entries. This puts greater attention back on direct fighting, character matchups, meter management, combos, and switching to the next team member after a fighter is defeated.
How the Gameplay Works
Players choose three fighters and decide the order in which they will enter the match. Battles use punches, kicks, throws, special techniques, evasive movement, and character-specific combinations. When one fighter loses all health, the next member of the team enters until one side has no characters remaining.
Power meters build during combat and can be spent on stronger techniques or activated for additional offensive possibilities. Experienced players can use cancels, advanced combinations, and MAX Mode mechanics to create much longer attacks. The large roster provides many different fighting styles and team combinations.
