The Last Stand: Aftermath is a zombie survival action game set after society has been devastated by infection. Players control infected survivors known as Volunteers who leave the relative safety of their colony to search ruined towns, military areas, abandoned buildings, and other dangerous locations for valuable supplies and information.
Every survivor is already infected, meaning death is eventually unavoidable. Instead of ending the entire adventure, however, losing one character allows another Volunteer to continue the larger journey while benefiting from knowledge and upgrades earned during earlier runs.
How the Gameplay Works
Players explore environments from an angled top-down perspective while searching containers, buildings, vehicles, and corpses for equipment. Zombies can be fought using melee weapons, firearms, explosives, and environmental opportunities, but ammunition and health supplies are limited enough that avoiding unnecessary fights can sometimes be safer.
The infection gradually becomes more dangerous as a run continues, forcing the player to make the most of the time available. Supplies can be used for crafting, weapons can be improved or replaced, and permanent knowledge upgrades help future survivors become more capable. Each death begins another attempt with a new Volunteer.
