The Oily Depths is a short deep-sea horror game that traps the player inside an oil-drilling submarine far beneath the ocean. A mysterious authority demands that the assigned drilling quota is completed, and failure comes with a particularly serious punishment: the submarine’s oxygen supply can be stopped. The result is a tense job simulation where ordinary industrial work becomes increasingly threatening.
Visibility outside the submarine is extremely limited, so gauges, screens, instruments, and other equipment become essential for understanding what is happening around you. The dangerous machinery inside the vessel is almost as threatening as whatever may be waiting outside, creating a compact horror experience focused on pressure and isolation rather than a large explorable world.
How the Gameplay Works
Players pilot the submarine across the seabed while monitoring instruments to locate designated oil deposits. Once a target is found, the drilling equipment has to be operated manually using levers, tools, locking mechanisms, and other controls. Learning the correct procedure becomes increasingly important when mistakes can put the entire vessel at risk.
The job must be completed while watching the submarine’s condition and remaining oxygen. Limited visibility forces players to rely on monitors and gauges instead of freely seeing the surrounding environment. Strange dangers and unexpected situations add horror to the routine as the pressure to meet the quota continues.
