About This Game:
The Typing of the Dead is a typing-based action game that transforms the light-gun gameplay of The House of the Dead 2 into a keyboard challenge. Players take control of AMS agents James Taylor and Gary Stewart as they investigate a zombie outbreak in Venice and fight their way through streets, buildings, waterways, and other infected locations. The story closely follows The House of the Dead 2, but firearms are replaced with keyboards, giving the familiar horror campaign a completely different style of combat.

Instead of aiming and shooting enemies, players defeat them by quickly typing letters, words, and increasingly complicated phrases that appear on the screen. The game keeps the original’s on-rails movement, civilian rescue situations, branching routes, bosses, and hidden bonuses while adding typing-focused challenges. Its unusual mixture of horror, arcade action, and typing practice gives it a very different feel from traditional educational or shooting games.

How the Gameplay Works
The game automatically moves players through each stage from a first-person perspective. Whenever an enemy appears, a word or phrase is displayed beside it, and typing the text correctly defeats or damages that target. Multiple enemies can appear at the same time, requiring players to finish words quickly and accurately before the creatures get close enough to attack. The length and complexity of the required text gradually increase as the campaign progresses.

Civilian rescue sequences can affect the path taken through certain stages, while challenge sections ask players to defeat a required number of enemies within a time limit. Boss encounters modify the normal typing system with longer phrases, questions, or other special typing tasks. Home versions also include additional modes such as Tutorial, Drill, and Boss Mode, allowing players to practice particular typing skills or replay major encounters outside the main story.
