Delta Force is a tactical first-person shooter that places players in the role of an elite Delta Force operative carrying out military missions across large outdoor environments. The campaign sends players to different regions around the world to deal with terrorist groups, hostile military forces, drug operations, and other threats. Missions take place across deserts, mountains, forests, villages, and fortified compounds, with wide-open terrain allowing enemies to be engaged from long distances.
The game stands apart from many shooters of its era by emphasizing large battlefields, long-range combat, and freedom of movement rather than narrow corridors. Players can approach objectives from different directions, use hills and terrain for cover, or eliminate enemies from a distance before entering heavily defended areas. Enemy soldiers can patrol open terrain or defend buildings and compounds, requiring players to watch their surroundings and choose positions carefully.
