Tomb Raider: Underworld follows Lara Croft on another globe-spanning adventure centered around ancient mythology, lost civilizations, and powerful artifacts. The story continues events from earlier Tomb Raider games as Lara searches for answers connected to her family while exploring ruins hidden beneath remote and dangerous locations.
Large environments place a stronger focus on exploration and climbing, with Lara using her athletic abilities to cross cliffs, temples, underwater ruins, caves, and ancient structures. Combat remains part of the journey, but navigating complex environments and solving puzzles are equally important.
How the Gameplay Works
Players control Lara from a third-person perspective while climbing ledges, balancing across beams, swinging from poles, using a grappling hook, swimming, and jumping between environmental surfaces. Many areas allow multiple movements to be chained together, creating longer traversal sequences.
Puzzles often involve moving objects, operating ancient mechanisms, finding routes through large structures, or understanding how different parts of an environment connect. Lara can use firearms against hostile creatures and human enemies, while certain sections also allow a motorcycle to be driven through larger areas.
