The King of Fighters 2000 is a team-based fighting game that continues SNK’s long-running crossover series with another tournament involving fighters from several different franchises. The game follows the events surrounding the NESTS storyline and features returning characters alongside newer competitors arranged into teams.
A major part of the combat is the Striker system, which allows an additional character to briefly enter the fight and assist the active fighter. This creates opportunities to interrupt opponents, continue combinations, or apply extra pressure during an attack.
How the Gameplay Works
Players generally select a team of characters and fight opposing teams in traditional 2D matches. Punches, kicks, jumping attacks, special moves, throws, and defensive techniques form the basic combat system, while power meters allow stronger super attacks to be performed.
Strikers can be called into the match a limited number of times to perform an assistance move before leaving the screen. Good timing can turn these assists into extended combos or provide an opportunity to escape pressure. Players continue fighting through opposing teams until reaching the later battles of the tournament.
