Age of Wonders 3: Deluxe Edition is a fantasy turn-based strategy game built around empire management, exploration, diplomacy, and tactical warfare. Players take control of a powerful leader and guide a growing kingdom across maps filled with independent settlements, dangerous creatures, valuable resources, ancient structures, and rival civilizations. Different races and leader classes can be combined, allowing each campaign to develop around a particular mixture of military, magical, and economic strengths.
The Deluxe Edition expands the package with additional content while keeping the large-scale strategy of the original game at its center. Campaign scenarios provide story-driven objectives, while standalone maps and randomized worlds offer more freedom to build an empire in different ways. Alliances, research, city development, hero progression, and army composition all influence how successfully a faction can survive against competing rulers.
How the Gameplay Works
The main strategy layer is played in turns, with players moving armies across the world map, exploring unknown territory, capturing useful locations, managing cities, researching new abilities, and dealing with other factions. Cities can produce military units and structures while expanding their influence over nearby territory. Heroes gain experience and equipment as they participate in battles, gradually becoming important commanders or powerful combatants.
When opposing armies meet, combat can be resolved automatically or played manually on a separate tactical battlefield. Units move across hex-based spaces and use melee attacks, ranged weapons, magic, defensive abilities, and special skills. Terrain, positioning, unit facing, resistance, and the order in which abilities are used can strongly affect the outcome. Players can pursue military conquest, diplomacy, expansion, or other victory conditions depending on the scenario.
