About This Game:
Chants of Sennaar is a puzzle adventure about climbing a vast tower whose different peoples have been separated by language and culture. The player takes the role of a traveler who gradually learns several fictional languages by observing signs, conversations, objects, and repeated symbols.
The game does not provide direct translations. Instead, players build a notebook of hypotheses and confirm meanings through context, turning language learning into the central puzzle mechanic.
How the Gameplay Works
Players explore stylized environments, speak with characters they initially cannot understand, study inscriptions, match symbols to objects or actions, and solve environmental puzzles. Once enough evidence is gathered, suspected translations can be validated.
Each level of the tower has its own language and social group, so earlier knowledge cannot simply be reused without thought. Stealth sections and mechanical puzzles add variety, but the main satisfaction comes from gradually turning unreadable conversations into understandable information and using that knowledge to reconnect separated communities. The core mechanics are easy to understand individually, but language-decoding puzzle adventure, multiple fictional languages, and context-based translation notebook begin to interact more meaningfully as the player progresses.
