About This Game:
Drill Bird is a compact digging platformer about a bird trying to protect and hatch its egg after falling from the sky. Equipped with a drill-like beak, the bird travels beneath the surface each day in search of useful ores and valuable materials. The deeper you travel, the greater the potential rewards become, but returning safely is just as important as collecting resources.
Its colorful appearance hides a surprisingly tense structure built around limited time and increasing underground danger. Resources gathered during expeditions can improve both the bird’s abilities and the egg’s progress, giving every successful trip a clear purpose. The story is communicated with minimal dialogue and focuses on survival, responsibility, and caring for the egg.
How the Gameplay Works
Players drill through blocks to create routes across underground caves while searching for ore and treasure. Monsters occupy some areas, forcing the bird to dodge or outmaneuver them rather than blindly digging forward. Inventory capacity and other limitations mean deciding when to continue deeper and when to return home is an important part of each expedition.
Collected materials can be used to improve the drill, health, carrying ability, and other useful attributes. A day-and-night cycle places additional pressure on exploration because remaining underground for too long creates greater danger. Repeated trips gradually allow the bird to travel deeper and collect the resources needed to help the egg hatch.
