About This Game:
Half-Life: Game of the Year Edition presents the landmark science-fiction shooter centered on Gordon Freeman, a theoretical physicist working at the Black Mesa Research Facility. A disastrous experiment opens a dimensional rupture, allowing alien creatures to invade the complex while government forces arrive with orders that place surviving scientists in further danger.
Instead of separating story sequences from gameplay with traditional cinematics, Half-Life allows events to unfold while the player remains in control. Laboratories, offices, maintenance tunnels, military areas, hazardous facilities, and alien environments form one continuous journey through the aftermath of the experiment.
How the Gameplay Works
Players explore Black Mesa from a first-person perspective while using firearms and experimental weapons against alien creatures and military soldiers. Environmental puzzles require machinery, switches, moving platforms, electricity, explosives, and other parts of the facility to be understood before progress can continue.
Combat changes depending on the enemy, with soldiers using squad tactics while alien species possess their own movement and attack patterns. Health and armor supplies are limited between encounters, encouraging players to explore side areas for ammunition and resources.
