Iratus: Lord of the Dead is a dark fantasy tactical RPG in which players control a powerful necromancer rather than the heroes trying to stop him. After awakening beneath the world, Iratus begins building an army of undead creatures from the remains of defeated enemies while attempting to escape his underground prison and spread his influence.
The campaign focuses on difficult turn-based battles, resource management, and developing a collection of specialized undead minions. Different creatures bring their own strengths, weaknesses, and abilities, allowing parties to be built around physical damage, stress attacks, defensive tactics, magic, or combinations of several approaches.
How the Gameplay Works
Combat takes place between two opposing groups arranged in battle positions. Ability availability often depends on where a unit is standing, making formation and movement important. Enemies can be defeated by reducing their health normally or, in many cases, by destroying their sanity and forcing them into dangerous mental states.
Between encounters, Iratus uses collected body parts and resources to create new minions, improve existing ones, develop talents, and expand his underground base. Losing a minion can be permanent, so deciding when to risk valuable units and how to replace casualties becomes an important part of campaign progression.
